Easiest Homemade Bread

If you thought you could never make homemade bread, this is the bread for you.  I LOVE this recipe because it is super simple and does not take forever to make like some others.  I have a french bread recipe that is amazing but it takes almost 3 hours to make with one of those hours having to stir the dough every 10 minutes.  Well not this one, it is one mix, one knead, one rise and then you bake.....
French Baguettes
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons sugar, divided
3 1/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of the water, the yeast and 1 teaspoons of the sugar.  Stir to combine and cover with plastic wrap of a plate.  Let it sit for about 5 minutes
In a large bowl or mixer blend the flour, salt and remaining teaspoon of sugar.  Add the yeast mixture.  Gradually add water up the remaining 1 cup (I usually don't have to add the entire cup)  mix until it forms a smooth ball and it is not too sticky.  Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead briefly, unto dough is smooth and elastic.
Cut the dough in half and shape into baguettes (long and thin).  Place on a greased pan and score the loaves down the middle (make a shallow cut down the center of the bread) Cover with a towel and let rise for about 30 minutes, until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees  and place a shallow pan of water in the oven to create steam (this is a neat trick to getting great crust on the bread)  Bake the bread for 15 minutes or unto done.  If desired brush melted butter on the loaves halfway though.  Or if you want a softer crust bush it on when they have finished baking (this is what I do)

This bread is amazing and so simple, even if I think of making it close to dinner time it won't take forever and a day for wonderful homemade bread.  We have this with butter or garlic butter, or we will make sandwiches with it.  I usually double the recipe, which is why I have 4 loaves, and will freeze half of it to use later.  Try this recipe and amaze your family with this delicious homemade bread!!
